The Sun can do amazing things, cant it? When the sun starts to come out.... I feel energized, ready to adventure outside, do new activities and projects.... the sun makes me happy.... we have been soaking up lots of vitamin D lately. And even though I have been terribly behind in my regular PPP posts, I have had a more restful week than usual.... which has been very therapeutic for me and much needed.

The other day we took a break from our regular homeschooling worksheets and in one hour, I taught McCoy how to tell time. I would say the time outloud and she would move the hour and minute hand. I remember learning to tell time was very difficult for me as a child... so it made me very happy that McCoy caught on so quickly. The joys of homeschooling....

This is the way I have been eating lately. I have always considered myself a " healthy eater".... but as of late I have been super mindful to make sure that 80% of my diet consists of vegetables... Since I found out I am allergic to dairy I have been researching new ways to get my daily calcium. What I have learned is that animal protein is NOT the best way to get calcium, iron and protein. Im reading this book right now. I couldnt be more inspired. Check out these facts:

1 Cup of Collard Greens : 133% of Vit A, 64% of Vit C, 50% of iron, 28% Calcium
1 Cup of Cooked Quinoa: 52% Calcium, 48g Protein

Well friends, today.... we will edit the new PPP and get it ready for fridays post.... we will read some books on our pallet bed, blow bubbles on our trampoline, hit the gym and do a trillion loads of laundry.A day in the life....

I was amazed when my Quit your Day Job Interview was noted as one of the most viewed articles for 2011 on etsy.

It got me thinking about these two things.

1.God is so amazing…. his word has the power to move mountains.

2.Nikes saying " just do it"….is inspirational to many of us... if only we can embrace it.

Many comments on etsy were in response to
1.The Glory given to God. and
2.The inspirational kick in the pants to " just do it".

The reason why I am writing this today… is not so I can bring any glory unto myself or my interview… because I am totally aware none of it is mine to keep although honored that God used PPP to inspire so many. But I wanted to recap on what that really means to " just do it"…. and how easy it is to give glory to God when you always remember where you came from. I call it " PPP- Humble Pie"

Here are some pictures of PPP's humble beginnings on etsy.

My favorite things about these pictures:

1. Dogs, kids, front door..... no problem! { hey ... its a lifestyle, right? }

2. How about a little " nighttime photography"? After all the husband is home now and he could take pics of me

3. Front door, kitchen table... in front of the couch... it didn't matter- I was sure the emphasis was on the clothing.

My best friend recently shot me a snapshot picture of my first ever business card. It was essentially a crayon drawn house with my name on it and phone number. By the looks of my card.. you would never know I made and sold clothing, you would think I ran a daycare… but on vista print I got these first 100 cards for FREE…. so that was the card I used. For the last five years, I've sewn out of hallways,laundry rooms and even had Tupperware of fabrics in storage units in between moves…. it has not been glamorous, easy or professional….

I imagine there are many of us… who have "dreams" but those dreams or even small steps toward those dreams never happen because of our emphasis on perfection and fear of failure. We think in our minds we need to start a business with a savings account, professional business cards, and a fancy website that costs a thousand dollars. For some of us… we are so crippled by fear of failing.. even if and when we did have all things lined up.. we would still not pursue our dreams in fear of failing at it… or worse publicly "failing at it". We care so much about what others " think" of us... that we forget... we are only here to please one... our Father in Heaven. And Did you know Fear is a sin?

Well, my humble pie is for all of us to see… and while I used to be embarrassed about my " beginnings"… I am glad God has allowed them. I can not truly be proud of where I am headed… without knowing and embracing where I have came from. I can also see how great the Lord is…. how he can build a business, build a person… and flourish things over time.

Needless to say.. I do have goals… just like many of you, One of my goals last year was to take indoor photography… which I am now doing { and still learning }… I have come a long way with my business.. but still have so much room to grow. if I had waited till I had the perfect photography, sewing studio, business education and plan... I may not have ever done a thing.... and I am so thankful that I listened to God... and I just DID it! I am currently dealing and revisiting this... and reminding myself of how faithful God is... so that I can embrace some new current fears of mine.. which are totally unrelated to PPP.. but I am in that position again where I am hearing God beckon me... and the lie I am hearing is that I need to have x,y and z all lined up before I move forward.... so please also pray for me if you remember... that Gods voice would thunder above the enemy's and I would choose " freedom" and not bondage.

So today… if you are struggling to put that one foot forward on what God has asked you to do, your purpose…. embracing your fear.. its time to trust in God and take the leap. { I am talking to myself too } Don't be afraid of not having it all together… that's Gods job…. just come to him as an empty vessel and he will be sure to grow you and fill you. So many times we "try" to grow it ourselves only to find ourselves completely exhausted and running out of gas…. as an end result.. defeated and discouraged. I am reminded today there is no safer place to be than in the will of God…. today could be the first day we respond and say YES to GOD and his will for our life….. embracing every imperfect thing about us… because we know we worship and trust in a perfect God…. and its so freeing to know…. we are never going to be perfect…. so lets get on with our lives shall we?Time to start dreaming again.... and living out our purpose. Fear- Free!

Make PPP $- Go Green-and Support the Lifestyle!

What if I told you there is a "simple" thing you could do that would allow you to earn PPP $$, go- green, and support the PPP lifestyle? It's very easy.... and is as simple as NOT throwing the PPP business card or hang tag away when you receive a new item. Here are some thoughts.

* I like to keep my costs down so I don't have to raise prices for customers, so I am not a "fancy" shipper.If you shop PPP regularly, you already know.. a PPP item comes folded up with a hang tag and business card... and sometimes a little note about policy if you are a new customer. While I enjoy receiving beautifully wrapped purchases... I know that I am essentially paying for them as a customer. I also like the focus to be on the item purchased.. and hopefully that brings so much joy- that no bead,feather,tissue wrap or bow will be missed. { if you run a business than you know.. those are additional costs that bleed into the asking price for the item.... also with the volume of sales PPP makes per week... hand wrapping each item would slow us down drastically... leaving less time for creating new product.

* In saying that.. I even wince at the idea of throwing business cards and hang tags in regular customers packages, knowing that they don't need their "300th" business card... and clearly it will wind up in the trash. Lets face it.. I don't expect any of you to collect these things... and If we are being honest.. who really keeps every single business card? Unless you are my child's Pediatrician.. you can bet.. Ive thrown your card away... sorry.. but its true...

*So that has me thinking... what can we do with these business cards and hang tags that come in every package?- well.... here is the idea!
-hand over your extra business cards to the person who compliments you on your new PPP.
-hand over your extra business card to a friend
-keep them in your wallet and be ready for that "compliment"

Did you know that every time someone new shops PPP, if they mention you who sent them.. you get 10% off your next item? and that 10% can add up.. if you are really hard out there reppin' for PPP. If you bring in five new people one week and they all buy something.. you will have 50% off your next item.

For some of you regulars who are honest enough to admit...{ and I appreciate your honesty } don't want to share PPP for the worry that there will be EVEN more competition than there already is in snagging new items on post day..... check out these facts! As business grows... there will be only MORE PPP for everyone. For example.. last year I was making 20 things per week.. that is all I could afford to make. This year I am making 34 new items per week.... So the more people that shop PPP .. the more PPP I am able to make....

By sharing PPP... you are only increasing the opportunity of more, detailed and wonderfully made items.... more expensive fabrics and cool details that you enjoy... also the more sales we make, the more help I am able to hire, to make things run smoother- including faster shipping, quicker communication to your questions, faster turn around time on custom orders etc. Its truly a win-win.Not to mention... every time you share the word.. you are hugely blessing me and my family.. allowing me to work from home, homeschool my children and continue to share my gifts and talents with you all.

Today the sun is shining... with a perfectly slight cool breeze. We slept in.. had a slow breakfast..... and spent the morning jumping on the trampoline and running around outside. Donnie and my Step Dad got working on the garage renovation... while my mom and I geared up for the Grand Opening of Gruene Trading Co. Lets just say.... it did not disappoint. What an awesome store full to the brim of eclectic radness- every where you look... there is something unique. I am so happy for my friend Kaari... her children were playing outside... lots of people walking around Gruene.... the atmosphere was just perfect. I see her family digging deep roots there in Gruene... I wish her huge success... and I trust that God will continue to bless her efforts.

Today... I am just inhaling the many blessings that are surrounding me... I am so incredibly blessed.... I have a husband who loves me and is working hard to make my workspace more comfortable.. a step dad who selflessly offers to help. My children own my heart and my mom is my best friend. Life is good... really...really....good. I hope today you are also soaking in the countless ways God has blessed you.

Saturday- Gruene Trading Co.

Tomorrow my husband and Step Dad are starting the project of closing in our garage to make it into a rad PPP Studio.... I love this garage renovation... love the organization here.... and I cant wait to have a cutting table and a place for all my patterns like this.. It will so awesome to finally have all of my work in a separate place so that my house can be a place of peace and organization. If you have been following PPP for sometime... you know I have spent the last 7 years working out of hallways, laundry rooms and Tupperwares.... so needless to say this is pretty much a dream come true.. to have an official spot for my studio. PPP has earned its keep...so I dont feel guilty investing back into a proper spot that will make things run smoother. Having to wait it out through the struggles and frustrations of small work spaces all these years only makes this opportunity that much sweeter. Im so appreciative..I.can.not.wait....

While the men are hard at work... my mom and I are going to head on over to the Grand Opening of Gruene Trading Co. I'm so looking forward to get in those doors and do some shopping. Kaari has teased us with snippets of the store... super cool things all around... including two of my favorites.. Robin Moratti and Taylor Sue for you. I'm honored that she decided to carry PPP in her super cool store.. So if you are local... you will now be able to shop for your PPP Staples in person.... and I love what Kaari ordered... its very PPP meets Texas!!!

We are no longer sending a % to Casa Hogar Orphanage. The ministry we were supporting is no longer associated with that orphanage but has shifted focus. Because we feel God has been real specific that PPP is to be supportive of the orphaned... we are waiting for God to direct us on whats next. It's an exciting time as we feel even in the midst of uncertainty... he is drawing us in closer to our purpose. Our hearts are super heavy because we want to be responsive to his calling... and for some reason this is a little bit scary. Im not sure what God will call us to next.... and that uncertainty { if I am being totally honest } makes me a bit anxious. I am praying to take every thought captive... so that I can walk confidently and fully trust him. Id appreciate your prayers if I come across your mind. We cant wait to share with you what is in the future for PPP.... and we thank you for all of your support... you guys are such a huge blessing.. in so many ways.

We are spending lots of time outside.. it can go from 80 to 50 in Texas in a day.. so when its nice... you will find us outside... enjoying every warm drop.

We got the kids a chevron rug- with the chevron trend almost annoying me.. i tried to fight it... thinking I would soon be sick of it... yet i. love. it. Some trends are just worth following.

Thats how I like to shop... sell my junk and buy a new couch. Thanks to those of you who bought " my junk".

The recipe for the day.... "Gluten/Milk- Free Quiche"....

What you will need:
6 eggs
3/4 c rice milk
1/2 tsp salt
1/8 pepper
1 dash nutmeg { optional }
3 Tbsp. Gluten Free All purpose Flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1 Tbsp Olive oil
Optional: Shredded Goat Cheese { as much as you wish }

*Pick any ingredients that you want: tomatoes,green onions,chopped spinach,bell peppers,cooked potatoes etc... the more ingredients you put in.. the deeper the dish you will need.

1. Crack them eggs.

2. Pour in ricemilk

3. Mix in, salt,pepper,nutmeg,flour and baking powder

4. Whisk. { McCoy's favorite part }

5. Meanwhile...lightly sautee any ingredients you wish to sautee

6. Put Veggies { or any other ingredients you choose } on bottom of pyrex dish. Pour egg mixture on top. Sticking your tongue out... optional.

7. We decided to add a little shredded Goat cheese to the top.

8. Add tomatoes to the top.

9. Get excited.... as it is now ready to put in the oven at 350. for 45 minutes.

10. Yummy. Eat Up!

You could easily double this recipe if you have a larger pyrex dish like we did..we weren't sure how much it would rise and so we were conservative. now we know we could have made a lot more and had left overs! Next time!

Pearl Snap "HYPE"

The thrift stores got the "memo" that pearl snaps were super cool.... and decided to hike their prices from 3.99 to 19.99.

I. AM. NOT.KIDDING.

There is now a little Vintage section... where they are pulling all the super cool vtg items and marking up their prices. what is thrift store shopping coming too? I want to rebel against this crazy price they are asking... but quite honestly... I cant totally let go of the Pearl Snap awesome-ness. In order to keep a few them around... I did have to raise the prices on these babies by a few dollars to cover my costs.. but even still Im making slim pickings on them with the huge cost. Im sorry. If you have been a customer of PPP for some time now.. you know.. I take pride in keeping my prices low and I hardly ever raise them. I want very much to stay comparable to places like urban outfitters and the like... because even though all of my items are handmade { not in a factory } like UO.... we share the same " kind of customer" who enjoys being able to get a couple things for under a $100-. I strive hard for this and will continue. The Pearl Snap " hype" has made it difficult to do. Even Still.... at $46... these pearl snap oxys are still totally worth it!

Catching up.

We are all on the mend.... but still laying low. Drinking loads of green drinks, taking our daily dose of probiotics and trying to be diligent in getting enough rest. My Dad came through Texas for a short visit.... and he leaves in a couple days... so trying to soak up every last minute of that as well.

I am catching up... Monday was a super productive day... and I am getting loads of custom orders out in the mail today. {Thanks for your patience}. I also feel a garage sale coming on... as I have been clearing out my house feverishly in hopes to do a little pre-spring cleaning. There is a calm that comes over me... when I don't have clutter surrounding me... { yet I'm such a hoarder.. as I love thrift bargains and our grandparents have been especially generous with the Grand kids..so we have toys and stuff everywhere} If I can sell a few things via virtual "garage sale" .. I will.... but it might be more work than I have time for. Besides I really like a good old fashioned garage sale, coffee.. quarters and fanny packs.

I finished my first ever PPP wedding dress... { the first ever actually was my own wedding dress } When it warms up.. Id like to photograph it outside if possible.... soon enough. I am super excited about this weeks post- we are breaking it up in half to change things up a bit. Half of the post will be tonight at 5pm Texas time. The other half on Wednesday { tba } You don't want to miss it!

Italias Birthday Celebration.

Even though we are all still a little sick... we showered up out of our snot rags and pulled together for a small celebration. Right after our parents left... Donnie, the kids and I went down for a nap and didnt wake till dinner. It was much needed. We are hoping to be on the mend. So glad.. Italia got to finally celebrate her turning 2.

Had to post these adorable photos of Donnie and McCoy heading out for the princess ball last week. So cute. They had a wonderful time... McCoy felt like a princess.

The last few days.... we have all gotten sick. Many of our friends have pnuemonia, bronchitis and strep. We are thanking God we all just feel achey and terrible... but with none of the above. Its lovely here in Texas this time of year. { insert: major sarcasm } I know many people are sick all over the world with the flu in many states.. { as my mom continues to remind me.. because she is the ultimate Texas cheerleader... but I have never seen so many sick people at one time in all my life.... its like every family has their very own breathing treatment kit. I never even had strep throat in my life or heard of a breathing treatment till we moved here.... the concrete jungle of California is sounding real good right now.

So over being sick. Oh and yes... Poor Italia has still yet to celebrate her birthday... we had to cancel it the second time around.... booo :(

We had a lovely week... despite Italia being sick. She is doing much better... but not 100%. So I'm laying low in hopes she will be 100% by the weekend so we can celebrate her birthday. Valentines Day was wonderful.... my husband surprised me with a bubble bath, rose petal walkways, slow dancing, roses and a massage. He is wonderful.. I am very blessed. We got the girls these adorable Mom, Dad shirts from Wren Willow.. {although i couldn't get Italia to be still enough for a photo} I finally finished the PPP Wedding dress I have been talking about and am excited to photograph it. My Pops is making a last minute trip into Texas to come and see us... we cant wait. Lots going on.... as usual.

Dearest Italia,

You are two today. Time has already flown by much too quickly to truly take inventory of the fact that my baby is now a toddler. Let me start by saying this... my love for you and your sister is endless... and "endless" seems so unsatisfactory when describing it. My heart hurts so much with this overwhelming love that I often wonder if there is another love in this entire world as strong.The love I feel for you... brings me to my knees... with great humility. Knowing that our great God created you for a specific purpose.. and that he loves you and your sister more than my human-ness knows how... that is such a hard fact to grasp. Before I ever met your Daddy.. I used to imagine myself as a Mama... and I knew that one day if the Lord blessed me with children... it would be the greatest gift in life. Now looking back.. I had not even the slightest clue.. how much you and your sister could and would change my life for the better. You guys are everything to me.

Dearest Italia.. as I think of you growing up in this big world... I pray desperately for the Lord in your life. Life can be hard at times.... but God has overcome this world... so don't ever give up hope. All of your sufferings in this life.. will be sure to develop the kind of character God desires for you. All of your sorrows can be turned into joy for the Lord... he will use even the things we tend to think are useless for his glory. When you experience suffering.. just know that you are truly unable to comfort anyone else in their suffering without experiencing your own... your deepest sorrows will bring great testimony to his name... and you will be a blessing to others because of it. Hold on sweet girl.... it will get better. God will never leave your or forsake you.

And Joy... Italia there is so much Joy to experience here on earth.. so much. Soak it up... and smile. Be thankful for the joy... and remember to give thanks to the one who brought it. Never underestimate the power of a smile and sweet words. God says that these things are healing to the bones... You have a lot of joy to share... never hold back... out of fear of being vulnerable with others. Your vulnerability will bring you the truest friendships. Don't worry about the ones your vulnerability scares away. Always be yourself. You were fearfully and wonderfully made... there is only one like you.... treasure that. Dont accept counterfeit ideals of beauty and worldly standards of happiness.. they are lies... that rob you of the real thing. Dream big... and persevere.... and be an encourager.... help build up others.. thats what you were made to do.

Now.. There will be intelligent people in this world that give you all kinds of eloquent advice.. it may sound lovely and even logical. Just remember... God has chosen the foolish things of this world to shame the wise. It may sound great... but choose not to lean on your own understanding. As you make decisions in your life.. always consult God first and you will find that your life will bear much fruit. You need not feel anxious or stressed about the outcome regardless of what it may be because you will know God has brought you to this or that place. There may people who don't agree with decisions you make or what path you are on... that is okay... and many of times it means you have made the right decision. If you believe God has called you to the place where you are.. never shrink back.. but stay strong. Remember.. you were not designed to please everyone... pleasing God is what matters.

My love.... do not live life in fear.. there are so many things to fear in this crazy world. The world is not a safe place... but you are not OF this world. You are set apart.. you are his. Fear is sin... and it can do terrible things to the body... and ones life. Trusting God to deal with your fears can be challenging... but God will never forsake you. He is faithful and you can trust him.

Lastly... please know... Your Daddy and I love you more than I could ever describe here in words. We are human, we may fail you in areas... that makes me very sad that it has to be this way. Just know that when Daddy and I mess up... we pray that God will continue to fill in the gaps so that you have everything you need to live life abundantly. So while we make our greatest efforts in leading you in the way you should go... all of your successes and glories need be given to God.. who is and will continue to intercede for us... in this journey of parenting. And Because you are human babygirl, just know its perfectly normal to mess up too, its going to happen here and there.... dont let a failure defeat you... but rather teach you. People who dream big... will make lots of mistakes along the way because they try to do things that others are too afraid to do. Just remember, Gods mercies are new every morning.. You were made to do great things.. let your light shine Italia for all the world to see.

My little booger is sick. The good thing is her fever has subsided today. Last night she woke up with a bloody nose... she is having a rough winter. The Pediatrician says she has RSV which is just viral and no antibiotics were needed.. thank God. We are just filling her system right now with lots of Vit C, probiotics and green drinks. Its super sad to watch your tiny baby cough and struggle to breathe. The worst part is it is her birthday tomorrow.... We had a small party planned for her at our house... which we had to postpone.

I am way behind on emails,customs and the outside world. I asked my husband today, "Would it bother you to have a wife that never left the house".. he smirked... knowing how very capable I am of that. All this down time snuggling with my babies and just attending to them.... cuddling in blankets...taking naps and making lots of green drinks.... has me pretty exhausted about even the thought of ever leaving this house again.

If you happen to read this and your email is one I haven't responded too,, please know you are not alone. I am going to try to catch up slowly but surely. I also am going to be a few days to maybe a week late on customs. So Sorry.

Daddy Daughter Dates!

Aren't they the cutest? We took these pictures last year when McCoy an Daddy went on their first date. McCoy loves to dress up and feel "big" and the uninterrupted time for her to talk and be heard by her Daddy is priceless. Tonight.... at our church.. they are hosting a Princess Ball. We knew right away that McCoy would want to attend. What five year old girl wouldn't? McCoy has her dress hung, tights and slippers set aside... just watching the passing minutes. Tonight will be a special night for her and Daddy.. Ill be sure to take pictures before they leave.

Meanwhile... back at the Hursh Ranch. Italia is sick... and her birthday is this weekend. Major bummer.She has been sleeping with me the last couple of nights... and my kids are kickers... and coupled with her constant cough... no-one is getting any sleep around here. { other than McCoy.. } I am going to be a bit behind on custom orders and such. Trying to take it easy... and go with the flow. I have worn the same thing for two days straight... and I have to say I am quite enjoying it. The weather outside is frightful and I am quite content being tucked inside with the kiddos.

On a side note. I picked a pretty stupid time to switch over to decaf...but I am doing it.

Homeschooling... our way.

I love this picture below because it truly captures " us". My kids... half dressed... McCoy whistling... doing school. I love that she can whistle and be shirtless... only at home could we pull that off during school. There is something to be said about that kind of freedom.... and comfort when learning. I love it.

Some People have asked WHEN I find the time to home school McCoy with a spunky "almost" two year old running around. Truthfully: I put Italia in her highchair..... and see how long I can get away with it. Sure there are tons of distractions... { but there are distractions in school too } and learning to move with those has been part of the process. Italia loves to make messes....and doesn't like to be in her high chair much... so I try to keep her busy with play dough, stickers, crayons,books. Half way through... Italia takes her morning nap at 10am most days... and sleeps like a dream... typically about 3 hours straight. I'm very blessed.... and also curious as to when this wonderful nap streak might end. eeeek! Then I will need plan B. { whatever that is }

When Italia wakes up... we are done with school. Which is perfect. Then we usually take a walk with Jefe... or play outside { weather permitting } The last couple of weeks have been much too cold.

So here is a quick Jist:

7:30 Kids are up.
I make breakfast.
We eat. I drink Coffee.
I read my bible { Im learning how to read with noise in the background... its an acquired Mama skill}
One of these days.. Ill get up earlier and do my bible time while the house is still asleep... but until then.
Italia throws food on the floor... and McCoy does a couple handwriting worksheets.
We then discuss our bible verse of the day... which usually leads to interesting conversation...

Two days out of the week.. McCoy attends a homeschooling co-op... they focus on Math, Science and some reading.

When McCoy is home for the remaining three days a week.
We do a bible story with Q&A. { Abeka }
Phonics. { Hooked on Phonics }
Math { Horizon }
Elective: This is usually something new everyday, cooking class, reading a story together, arts and crafts,
trampoline exercises and or yoga, puzzles, etc.

Next Year: If we continue to homeschool.. { which I hope and pray we do }.. I would like to organize a more functional nook... in my already super small house... for homeschooling. If any of you homeschooling Moms are good with organizing small spaces,, Id love to hear any suggestions. I am envisioning a huge cabinet of some sort... so its not all "hanging" out.... and we have a somewhat normal looking house. Who I am kidding.... normal. You know what I mean.

McCoy is a bookworm... everywhere we go.. she brings a bunch of books so she can read. Through out the day you will hear her humming,singing,whistling and reading... it is never quiet around these parts.

We jam out to this awesome Cd in our car.... the kids love it. Aunt Misty buys the kids thoughtful and fun gifts.

Italia never leaves the house without her "blankey" and her pacifier. She loves to cuddle and enjoys naps. She will tell you " night night" when she is tired. I love watching her sleep. She is so beautiful.

Italia likes to put her food in several different bowls and plates and then eat from each of them.. its weird... and more dishes to do at the end of the day... but she eats everything and is putting on weight... so we have given in. Italia is almost two... but very small for her age. McCoy was always small at this age too so we are trying not to worry about it... in the meantime... we are feeding her as much as we can.

These little Spanish magnets are pretty cool. My fridge is such a clutter zone of magnets, to-do lists, meal lists and my gym schedule.

McCoy has officially ditched her pull ups... and Italia is peeing in the froggy potty { not all the time.. but when we are home... she wants to use it } they are growing up way too fast. Italia will be 2 years old Feb 12th. Cliche to say... but feels like just yesterday she was just born.

McCoy is my nurturer... she is a care-giver by nature. She finds the child crying in the corner.. makes friends with them, prays for them and calls them honey. She wants to be a big girl. She loves lip gloss, drawing, ballet and everything pink. McCoy is thriving at school. THRIVING. We love her Co-op and are so thankful for such a great year of homeschooling. I really didn't think I had it in me.. to be patient and "smart" enough to home school my kids. Not to brag...{ but here i go } everywhere we go.. people comment that she is gifted and so ahead. God has been so gracious to me.... and I believe God is encouraging me... that where I come up short in academics or parenting... he will fill in the blanks. I'm so proud of my almost 6 year old and her beautiful heart and character.

Italia.... my little feisty one. Her facial expressions will crack you up. She has massive personality. She is rough and tumble. She will fall down and get back up without crying. She is quite opposite of her very sensitive sister... Italia is very coordinated and very active... she uses few words...but her face will tell you everything. She doesn't like to be held unless she is really tired... she wants to run.... ! She is constantly messing up her sisters beautifully decorated and organized barbie house. Italia is the funny one of the family... she keeps us laughing... and cleaning.

McCoy's Kitchen.

One of my favorite things to do with McCoy is cook. Donnie is the "cook" in the house.. being the Italian and foodie that he is... but I "try" and I enjoy it.. I like to take my time... and make it fun... I let McCoy do all the cooking. It does take a whole lot longer... so I like to do it when we are not rushed on time. I read her the instructions ... very slowly and sometimes repeat it if she looks confused. I find that when she is very hyper.. cooking settles her down.. because she has to calm down to listen and apply the information I'm giving her. One of many things about homeschooling that I enjoy.. is that I have time during the day to do fun stuff like this... and the confidence it builds in McCoy.... is so rewarding. She feels very confident in the kitchen. This recipe is for Gluten Free Simple Bread. {we got the recipe here}

This bread is very nutty in flavor... and super tasty. Eat it with almond butter for a snack or with lentil soup. Delish!

Gather your ingredients: Apple Cider Vinegar, Almond Flour, Sea salt, Agave Nectar, Baking Soda and 3 eggs.

1. First Grab a Large Bowl, Almond flour, baking soda and sea salt.

Combine 2.5 cups of Almond flour...

1/2 teaspoon sea salt

1/2 teaspoon of baking soda

Now Grab another bowl.. your three eggs and a whisk.

Crack them eggs open...

Whisk.

Now Grab your ACV and Agave

Pour in 1 teaspoon of agave nectar

And stir in 1/2 teaspoon of Apple Cider Vinegar

The fun part.... pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients!

and stir.

Now is a good time to turn the oven to 350.

Grab a loaf pan.. and make sure it is well greased.

Spoon in the batter into the loaf pan.

Put it in the oven for 45 mins.

Ta-da....

In my opinion this bread is much tastier than any regular bread... and chock full of protein and good healthy fat with almond flour. Being Gluten Intolerant isnt such a bad thing.

Health: My Story.

I've been wanting to write about this for months... but I knew it would take time to sit down and really write it all out.. so I keep putting it off. I have been through a whirlwind of health discoveries in the last year.... so much so.. I even had my family thinking I was turning into a hypochondriac in the process.

Truth be told... if I were everyone else from the outside looking in... it was starting to look that way. But being healthy all of my life... I knew what I was feeling was wrong.. and my body just wasn't right. I was having tightness in my chest... and I was told from everyone around me... It was anxiety { they know me well... and thought I must just be over-doing it...as usual } I never had to go to the doctor much in my life. I am usually never sick... not even the seasonal flu. Health was never a concern for me.... and when its not a concern.. its easy to take feeling good for granted. The tightness in my chest persisted for months... so much so.. that I finally caved and made a doctors appointment.

When I explained that my chest felt tight... the first thing the Dr did was an EKG.....which came back normal... so the Doc suggested since i haven't had my blood taken in years... why not run a complete blood panel. I agreed.. thinking nothing of it. I went home and carried on as usual.. still feeling tightness in my chest... and then started burping { to my relief.} I then thought... Oh gosh.. this is indigestion! Whew... a little aloe vera juice and I am on my merry way... but I tried every remedy for a week and instead it worsened. I tried to eliminate acidic foods, spicy foods, top allergic foods, you name it.

Then the day before thanksgiving.. my phone rang. Ill never forget it. The Nurse informed me my blood work came back "abnormal".... my Ana titer was elevated. I had no idea what "Ana" was... and she wasn't quick to explain.. but instead short and cold. All she continued to say was that she wanted to refer me to a Rheumatologist so they could rule out serious diseases such as Lupus and Rheumatoid Arthritis. I hung up the phone.. and threw myself on the floor. I was on my face..... crying out to Jesus begging him for hope. A weird tingly feeling came over me... and I felt nauseous. I felt I had no strength to lift Italia from her crib. I was floored... literally.

Finding a Rheumatologist that was even available to see me was a challenge in itself. When I finally did... the Doc ran a battery of tests on me... which all came back negative. He told me this was good news... but that auto immune diseases can grow over time... a negative report today.. could be a positive report in a month from now. He told me not to worry.... and to come back if I had any symptoms of an auto immune disease. That just felt like someone telling me to stand right there in the train track and wait for the train. I know that might sound dramatic.... but I have always been pro-active about my health..and I wanted to do something... or at least educate myself further. I asked the Rheumy what causes high Ana's... and auto immune diseases... his answer...? . " Its one of those medical mystery's".

At that time.. All I had was indigestion... so the Rheumy referred me to a Gastro to run tests on his end. The Gastro saw me and right away ordered an endoscopy. He told me that "sometimes" people who have elevated ana's have stomach cancer... or Hpylori- and this could be reeking havoc which might be causing this extreme indigestion. he told me however.. not to worry.. I seemed like the "picture of health"..so the endoscopy was just to err on the side of caution. He gave me some "reflux" medicine and off I went.... { Not taking the medicine of course }

The Endoscopy: Came back normal... the Gastro said I looked Pink and Perfect in my tummy. Nothing of alarm. I was thankful. However... knowing that the indigestion meds would only cover up the symptoms.... and knowing that my blood was still "abnormal"... I felt like the mystery was hardly over. The fact that the rheumy seemed to have thrown up his hands on where these awful diseases came from.. stumped me too. Surely.. it isn't that much of a mystery. Surely....and so i researched. I found that auto immune diseases come from toxins... environmental, heavy metals stored in tissues, gluten in tolerances,allergies, anything that can interrupt the bodies communication...and yes some of us are pre-disposed because of our genetic makeup... but it dosent mean we have to get these diseases.

I wont bore you with every Doctor I saw after that... but I saw many. I saw eastern Drs, western Dr's and anything in between. I was diagnosed with mono, h pylori { which was funny.. because I had the endoscopy to prove that wasn't so }, allergies, Scarlett fever.... everyone took a nice little guess at little Miss hypochondriac... I was started to feel like a joke.... a new day... a different supplement... a different antibiotic... a new expensive test ran.

It was the longest year of my life... and most expensive. I was starting to feel bad about my quest for health. I was spending money... and hadn't taken one forward step in my health. My symptoms were worsening.. I was actually barfing in my own mouth { sorry.. if that's t.m.i} and I would wake up with this constant pressure in my chest, weird rashes, neck headaches and joint pain. On top of it.. I was clearly anxious... and was starting to feel like my anxiety might be causing my symptoms to worsen. I also felt like there was no one who really understood me... even the people in my family were growing tired of my woahs.

I was also feeling convicted of my fear.. God was showing me sides of myself I never knew existed. I always felt I was fearless... but with two precious children on my mind.. I was becoming fearful... and I wanted { just like everyone else} to have some quality of life... lets face it.

Unless you have ever heard a doctor suggest you might have a disease... you can probably not relate... but if that has happened to you, maybe you can relate.... life is different. more precious. the complaints of yesterday and goals of the future seem immediately unimportant. My focus was God, my children, my husband , my family, getting well.... and trying not to lose it in the meantime.

Id be lying if I said the whole thing didn't stress me.. Praying and praying... crying... and waking up in night sweats.. begging God to direct me... It was hard. Meanwhile... everyone around me... was starting to think I was possibly a hypochondriac.. I knew I didn't feel good... but it was so hard to pin point . I knew I had no diagnosis... and I knew I shouldn't worry... but every time a symptom would come at me... that tingly fear would come over me too. I also knew on the spiritual side of things, God was teaching me through this trial.. I could feel my heart being stretched.. and I knew God was going to use this for his glory. I vowed ... no more "google" to send me on scary rabbit trails... no more self-diagnosis. I was going to do everything I could to use preventive medicine... a good diet, good sleep and a good attitude... I was going to pray, exercise... and most importantly ... not let the devil rob me of joy any longer.

So before I get started on my experience with Dr Luepnitz.. I want to make it very clear.. that I believe God is in complete control of the universe.. including my body. He is the healer. The rest of us are just guessing... and some guess better than others. Some of us have PHDs and some of us ..just google. I do however think its important for us not to just assume since God is in control ...that we can kick back... abuse our bodies, not educate ourselves on our health and throw our hands up. I suppose we all have that decision. I can only speak for myself... and I choose to learn.... even if it sometimes seems like my efforts are extreme.... my constant challenge in educating myself.. is to remember.. that God is in control... not me or the education I pursue... and so if I keep my eyes on him... and ask him to show me only what he wants to show me.. I wont waste my time and efforts.

So Dr Luepnitz.. where to start ?A bunch of friends had suggested I see a Dr.. by the name of Luepnitz, in Austin. I was hesitant and put it off... I was on a hiatus from seeing expensive Doctors..and I was discouraged that this Dr would be any different. But something motivated me to take one more stab at it. So i scheduled. { I had to wait two months before he could even see me } Dr Luepnitz specializes in helping cancer patients, his main focus is nutrition and supplementation to combat disease and boost immune system... but his massive knowledge has him recognized as top 100 to contribute to the medical world.

I went in... and I sat down.... and I listened to this guy interpret my blood work and me for an hour. It was more info than I had ever gotten and he had me in tears. He explained finally to me what was going on in my body...and offered up some options of attack. On top of it.. he was a christian and told he was the donkey for God.. just a donkey with an education.. and it made me realize... that God was using him mightily...as I prayed on my drive to meet him.. that God would speak through this man to me.

Some things he suggested I Do:

1. Take a food allergy blood test { this determines the delayed response.. not immediate response... } I had a food panel done at the allergy dr which all back normal. But the delayed response measures your blood for antibodies for delayed offenses. -

I found out I was allergic to cows milk, celery and cabbage.

2. Begin several supplements: Agaricus, Licorice GI, Oregano Oil, MSM. { amongst some others to exchange with } Agaricus being the key player.... read about it here and here.

3. He agreed that it wasn't a bad idea to go ahead and yank those tonsils out too { I had high levels of strep in my body from the first strep throat I had ever had which Dr L Suggested might have lingered causing my ANA to higher as well. - So in early November I had my tonsils removed.

4. Get a Dna test to check if I was gluten intolerant.-

My Dna revealed I am double stranded gluten intolerant...meaning both my parents are gluten intolerant and so I got both genes... which also means both my kids are gluten intolerant.This was a huge breakthrough for me. Many people are gluten intolerant and don't have serious enough of symptoms to really make the conclusion. Unless you have full blown celiac disease it wont show up in a blood test either.. making things even more confusing for most of us seeking answers.

Dna tests are never wrong. its your DNA.. it never changes. That's nice to know.

So I agreed to cut out all gluten products out of my diet. It was super simple. I was happy to do it. Some people have asked me if it was hard. Honestly, it was super easy. Its not like I had to give up coffee or something tragic like that. Because I am not "celiac" I do not have to worry about getting trace gluten from sauces or anything less than 2%.. infact.. its important I get some trace of gluten so I am not hyper sensitive to it in case I am ever accidentally exposed. So for the most part, I avoid bread,pasta, baked goods and such with gluten in it. The great thing about living in today's world... is that there are plenty of gluten free products... so if I am craving pasta or muffins.. I can have it.

I have been gluten free since October... and in the short period of time, I feel much better. My neck headaches have gone away, my joint pain gone, and most importantly ... my indigestion completely gone. Imagine feeling like an elephant was standing on your chest for over a year and then one day, he stepped off your chest... imagine the way you would feel with your new found freedom... that's how I feel. I also lost 10 pounds of unwanted baby bulge that I have been carrying around since being pregnant with McCoy... and Ive worked out intensely to try to lose it... but not until I omitted gluten was my digestion able to cooperate with me.

The trickle down blessing.. is that My mom, Dad Sister and two daughters have been educated about their gluten intolerance's by my single Dna test. Clearly the best $150 a person could spend if suffering as I was. Now looking back... it makes such sense to me.. McCoy would always complain her tummy hurt.. so much so.. that we took her to get an xray because we had gotten so worried it was something serious. It also takes me back to Italias long bout of acid reflux after she was born... where she had to be medicated so she wouldn't choke on her own saliva... She had so much mucous in her mouth.. they thought she might have cystic fibrosis and had us do the testing for that. Now that we are all off gluten, there are no tummy aches, no indigestion and Italia is putting on more weight....{ gluten intolerance's are known for children failing to thrive}. Praise God for showing us this avenue.

I am still in the midst of this battle with the blood test.. and I wish I could report all is normal.. but it can take up to a year for my body to stop making antibodies.... and Lord willing.. I will be healed. I know that this knowledge is at the end of the day... just worldly wisdom.. and only God.. the true and only physician can heal me... So I take this wisdom as a tool... but I don't put my hope in the tool. My hope is only in him.. who has the power. I really try to rest in that... and when i get worried.. I remind myself of how good I feel now... and how God loves me. I can trust him... no matter what the circumstance.

I only found out a few days ago that I was allergic to "Cows Milk" from my food antibodies test and my first reaction was not worried at all... because I am not a big milk drinker... but then yesterday it hit me for the first time... that milk is in my yogurt, my cheese and is an ingredient in many recipes. duh! I am not one to complain... because I am just so thankful to find out whats been ailing me and happy to make changes... but I am not going to lie.... no-one is going to want to have us over for dinner ever!!!!!

Health is an ongoing quest. I think it is important to educate ourselves as much we can ...and share with the ones we love.. in case they could benefit from it. I know that I am forever thankful for the friends who shared Dr L with me... and for the wisdom others have imparted to me ... so hopefully this post will help someone seeking answers in this area of their life. Dr Luepnitz also does phone consults... so you don't have to live in the Austin area to see him. And if you are in a situation where you cant afford to see him or have tests ran, I might urge you to try cutting gluten out of your diet.. since it is aggravating for most people.... you might see a drastic change as I did { but give it at least a month before expecting results}

Lastly... I just want to commit myself to pray for each and everyone of you who are sick or have a sick family member. Lets leave our prayer requests as comments too and commit to pray for each other, wouldn't that be beautiful? God can use even our sickness for his glory..... I know that no matter what God chooses to do with my health.. I want to remain on my knees.. humbled. I love the quote above " Life begins at the end of your comfort zone"... My home is Hermosa Beach. I can think of a million reasons why NOT to love California anymore. {and I wont list them here because I do have a long list } Yet at the end of the day ... it is home. I grew up there... smelling the ocean, surfing,swimming, wearing flip flops .. shopping at trader joes.... its just home.. and I cant even help but feel that way. Today... I admit, I am a little home sick. I am sure I am only home sick today because the allergies have been terrible in Texas the last couple of weeks..... and once it passes I'm sure I will love Texas again... but today... if someone offered to pack up our house and move us right out of here.. I just might take the offer.

I miss the ocean too- I really miss the ocean. {Sigh}. Did I mention, I realllllllly miss the ocean? Today.. I am going to take it easy.... I feel like when the kids nap..I should listen to some of these sermons my neighbor texted me. I am feeling dis-content today and I know that is not from the Lord.

McCoy is so happy to be back to ballet. We took the first part of the year off to transition into homeschooling and her co-op... and once we felt we had a handle on our schedule we knew we would come back to ballet... it is her true love.

and Italia seems to have just as much fun while her big sis is doing ballet... as she plays with my phone and manages to get into just about everything.

Italia broke into a little dance when she heard the music come on...

Oh Childhood.... its so magical.

1. Welcome Sara..... She is my beautiful friend. We met at the gym... she is my exercise partner. {which basically means she knows my whole life story now... because talking makes the workouts alot less painful. She has become a really good friend of mine.... and I just had to add her beautiful face to the line up of PPP models. So welcome Sara! :)

2. Another thing to smile about: Um, yes... my camera that arrived a few days ago.. that I was able to use for the first time tonight... Major rejoicing going on over here!

3. Do I even need words here? This is Lola, Sara's daughter. Clearly.. Lola needed to be a PPP model.
Clearly...... I am speechless..... at trying to explain the cuteness here! { btw: these cute kids clothes will be posted in tomorrows batch }

4. One More New Style to add to the PPP 2012 Collection. The T-shirt Dress! This dress was birthed for me actually. I love to throw on my clothes and go.... and this dress is the perfect hassle free casual dress that still makes you feel girly and yet comfy too.

and folks you wont be seeing this one below here... because, well I kept it for muah... but dontcha worry... I will be making lots more of these puppies.... because this is the perfect spring dress.

Kind of amazing what a fresh new color can do to your hair. I love Blondie hair { always have }.... but I am much happier with this color at the moment. I feel different....and I love change. I'm addicted to change actually. So this is just what I needed to jump start the flow of 2012.

While I will always be a blonde at heart.... I'm hanging up the blonde for a while and going to enjoy the darker side of things! For those of you "blondies" who might be interested. I have some clip in hair extensions that I got at Sally's...I am going to sell.They are so much fun and great for the those of you who are impatient in a grow out stage.I bought them here for $100- and I will sell them for $50.

Here is a pic of me in the blonde extensions.They are made of real hair.... very real looking,,, easy to put in.... and tons of fun.

Thanks for all the supportive comments on this post and on face book. I think I needed a kick in the booty to just go for it. For those of you who asked, my hair was done by Andrea at William Edge Salon. She is responsible for this totally... as I came in asking for brown and she had a vision that I just trusted her with instead.. so glad I did. What kinds of changes are you making in 2012? Id love to hear about them!

Oh and Im serious when I say... you dont want to miss tonights post... I get really excited when Laura takes photos in her ppp, because 1. she rocks it... and 2. her photos always knock my socks off. Yesterday on her blog she is wearing her PPP, CSNY Tube. { and those shoes? Gasp!..} I love how she puts her outfits together!

Taking off the cape!

This is me at Mccoys 3rd birthday. I hijacked McCoys super hero costume gift.

I was smitten to say the least.

Maybe there is something to be said about that.

Maybe... its because I run a full time business in part time hours.

Home school my daughter and try to be a good wifey.

All while trying to keep my head above water.... running to and fro.

Some days I really do feel like a super-hero.

Other days....not so much.

Balance in my life... has always been a quest.

I love my job.... but sometimes its a huge source of stress for me.

deadlines, making sure customers are happy... keeping up financially.

Working in to the evenings... when some nights all I want to do is snuggle with my family.

Sources of stress for me......?

I am terribly unorganized.

Mainly from a lack of time to clean up after my projects

Papers stack up on my desk..

and i forget another friends birthday.

i know.... i know. its super lame.

being unorganized.... not just annoying...

but also a time sucker.. as I spend lots of time

searching for minor details... hole punchers, scissors, stamps.

that persons address.... a pen that works.

So not super-hero " ish".

In saying that...I also know that where I spend my time..

that is where my treasure lies.

I don't have lots of free time... or any.

And... when I get down on myself for being a mess.

I try to remember to take my "cape" off.

I am not a super hero.

I'm a Mom. { which sometimes I admit feels like a super hero }

Sometimes doing arts and crafts or sitting down to read a book with them

means the laundry is stacking up.

Its gotta be OK.

What I am doing is more important.

Sometimes I get anxious.

I worry about small things.

Bangs or no Bangs?

I worry about big things.

What kind of legacy are we leaving behind for our children?

I have realized that in being a type A personality

I can so often get muddled up in planning my future!

and thinking about EVERYTHING.

way too much!

and it really shows my lack of faith and insecurity.

Yet... when I pray....I find this overwhelming peace come over me..

when I let go.. and trust that God has a plan for my life... really.

he whispers to me... All I have to do is be still.

I squirm... " still"?

I don't like being still.

But this stillness.... isn't laziness... or carelessness.

Its surrender....trust... faith... peace...

I don't have to compete... or plan or fight for my future.

He is in control of the universe.

I am not.

This is FREEDOM.

So....I allow myself to be broken, imperfect and a work in progress.

I can take my fake little cape off.....

I am not a super hero.

A verse that I am meditating on right now :

Good golly....Kids grow so fast, right?.. and if they are playing" like kids do "their clothing gets dirty, ripped, ruined. Early on.... I decided I wouldn't freak out over stains and things.... {trust me ...its tempting because I'm frugal and I want clothing to last} but I also want my children to have all the fun I did as a kid .... grass stains included. I love hand me downs and thrifted bargains.... and every now and then I cave and buy some brand names. But, lets face it... buying brand new expensive kids clothes is not a great investment.... and I want to be wise... but wise and cute is even better.

Because I am frugal....I push my girls clothes to the EDGE. This shirt... I got for McCoy from Violet Bella a year and a half ago. Who could resist, right? This adorable teddy bear shirt has gotten much too short on my growing girl.... she is almost 6 now {gasp} and this shirt is marked 4t. So I added some sleevage and a band for length. Wa-la! Now it will last her another year.

These jeans... { size 4t } McCoy has a tiny waist.

we can never find jeans that fit her in the waist and length.

They are always too short on her...

So Remedy? Ruffles!

These sweats she has had since she was three. { you think Im kidding }

This Shirt was 3t. Lasted her till 5. Added Bells and a band.

This Shirt was too short... so I added a longer ruffle

This shirt has quite the history. it started off as a store bought Blondie one z... for McCoy when she was a baby. Loved it so much when she outgrew it... so then sewed it as a patch on a shirt, then bell sleeves and band were added as McCoy got even older... then when McCoy turned 3... I reluctantly packed it away { sigh } and pulled it out as soon as Italia turned one.... and Italia is still wearing it now at 2. { talk about pushed to the edge }

So you are probably thinking... yah.. whatever.. you sew... easier said than done for me. Well, because I am a Mom and I understand your pain.. I decided to come up with a MOMS Special.... Read the link/listings for options on styles.

I came up with two packages. The first package.... and the second package.

When you do the Math... that winds up being around $12 per item.......!!!!

We have missed the wall.... especially because I am such a rookie still at studio photography.

I love photography with natural light.

I will mix it up when I can.

The wall is special to me.... we will never totally leave the wall.

Besides... today was a day for enjoying the outdoors!

It took me 7 months to get back to being blonde.

I Dreamt about dreads...
